Technology plays an important role in education today. At the elementary level, we use computers as a tool to enhance the curriculum. The computer teacher and classroom teachers collaborate to create projects that integrate technology into the classroom curriculum while at the same time, learning valuable technology skills. The students use the programs we have available such as Google Drive/Docs and Slides, Dreambox, Raz-Kids, Edgenuity, and other various age appropriate websites.
Each December, we participate in the international event called, The Hour of Code, to explore some computer science activites. The students are always excited about this event. Additional coding activities can be found here.
Students in grades 3-5 will complete a six week digital citizenship unit to learn about internet safety and etiquette. Students in grades K-2 will review this concepts during digital citizenship week as well.
Often, computers are viewed by children as entertainment. Our goal is to create 21st Century Learners who use computers and mobile devices as productivity tools to aid them in their school work and everyday life.
